An exhibition of works by 10 famous urban art artists, including Banksy, KAWS, and Shepard Fairey, is being held at Chungmu Art Center Gallery Shindang in Jung-gu, Seoul.
This exhibition, titled 'Urban Art: From Streets to Museums (ICONS OF URBAN ART),' features works from the collection of MUCA (Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art), a German urban art museum. Urban art refers to various forms of art that can be encountered in public places in cities, such as walls, buildings, and roads, and includes graffiti art and street art.
In particular, this exhibition features several works by Banksy, the British artist known as the 'faceless artist.' Among them, 'Vandalised Phone Box' is a red phone box work that Banksy installed in an alley in London, England in 2005, and it looks like it has been hit with a pickaxe and is bleeding.
'Ariel', which was presented in 'Dismaland', a dark version of Disneyland created by Banksy in collaboration with 58 artists in 2015, and 'Are You Using That Chair?', an oil painting parodying Edward Hopper's painting 'Nighthawks', are also on display.
You can also see 72 works by 10 urban art artists, including 'Moon', a large LED work by French artist Invader, who is also active without revealing his name and face, and '4-foot Companion' by KAWS, who is famous for the character 'Companion' inspired by a cartoon character.
Christian Utz (55), founder of MUCA (Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art), a representative urban art museum in Europe, held the first exhibition of MUCA's collection in Seoul.
