The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama...
I read the book 'Hopes and Dreams (Steve Dougherty)' published before he was elected president during the holiday.
The book containing his life and famous quotes(!) before he was elected as a presidential candidate
seems to have not sold very well.
Anyway,
there was this passage among them:
"Making money is not wrong.
But focusing only on making money
shows the poverty of ambition."
Since when
adults' wishes or children's dreams
have been increasingly filled with the idea of wanting to become celebrities.
It's not just because they want to act, sing, and show off their talents,
but maybe because we've seen sudden stars
who make a lot of money in a short period of time through CFs and casting in dramas and movies.
It could be a phenomenon where many people have dreams that are biased toward one side in order to make money.
I'm not saying that having such a dream is bad...
I'm just wondering if you think about what comes next...
Everyone chooses a dream to make money and tries to achieve it,
but what happens after making that money...
There aren't many people who have made that much money so far, so you might not have thought about what comes next...
Can something called a 'dream', 'hope', or 'ambition' really stop at making money?
Even if we secondarily confirm Barack Obama's fulfillment of his responsibilities and ability,
I felt a pang of guilt when I read Obama's writing,
which made me think that I should cultivate my dreams and ambitions more broadly and further...
If not for money, what else should I cultivate my ambitions for...
That's a moment that I'm more concerned about.

오바마 '야망의 빈곤함'을 보여주는 것은 돈?
미국 제 44대 대통령 버락 오바마...
그가 대통령이 당선되기 전에 출판되었던 책 'hopes and dreams(스티브 도허티)'을 휴일에 읽었다.
대통령 후보로 당선되기 까지의 그의 삶과 명언(!)들을 담은 책은
판매량이 그리 많진 않았던 것 같다.
어쨌든,
그 중에 이런 글이 있었다.
"돈을 버는 것은 잘못된 일은 아닙니다.
하지만 돈을 버는 데만 집중시티는 것은
야망의 빈곤함을 보여주는 것입니다"
언제 부터인가
어른들의 바램, 또는 어린 아이들의 꿈 속에
연예인이 되고 싶다는 생각들이 많아졌다.
그건 단지 연기를 하고, 노래를 부르고, 자신의 끼를 발산하기 위해서라기 보다,
어쩌면,
CF로 돈을 많이 벌고, 드라마, 영화의 캐스팅을 통해서 돈을 많이 버는
단기간에 돈을 번 벼락 스타들을 보아왔기 때문이 아닐까 하는 생각이 들었다.
돈을 벌기 위해서 한쪽에 편중된 꿈을 가진 이들이 많아진 현상일 수도 있다.
그런 꿈을 갖는게 나쁘다고 말하는 게 아니다...
그 다음을 생각하느냐는 거지...
누구나 돈을 벌기 위해서 꿈을 선정하고 이뤄가려고 하기도하지만,
그 돈을 벌고 나면 그 다음은 어떻게 할것인지...
지금까지 그만큼 돈을 번 사람이 얼마 되지 않아 그 다음은 생각지 않았던 것일 수도 있겠지만...
'꿈', '희망', 혹은 '야망'이라는 거창한 이름으로 부를 수 있는 것이
과연 돈을 버는 것에서 머물 수 있는지...
버락 오바마의 자신의 책임 완수와 능력 발휘에 대한 것은 2차적으로 확인하더라도,
좀더 넓게, 그리고 좀더 멀리, 꿈과 야망을 키워야 할 것 같은
오바마의 글 귀를 보고
스스로도 뜨끔했던 순간이었다...
돈이 아니면 무엇을 위해 야망을 키워야 할 것인지...
그게 더 고민되는 순간이다.
